Akamas Peninsula is renowned for dedicating itself to protecting the biodiversity in the Mediterranean.
With an area of 230 square kilometres that consist of valleys, gorges and sandy bays, an appropriate environment has been crafted for 168 different species of birds, 20 varieties of reptiles, 12 varieties of mammals and 16 different species of butterfly residing together.
The abundance of different sorts of fauna is praiseworthy as well. Due to its contribution towards the protection of ecological balance, Akamas peninsula has been included in the Mediterranean Protection Programme by the European Council.
