The India Gate is a majestic arch of stone, which resembles the famous Arc de Triomphe in Paris, was designed as a memorial to the Indian soldiers who had given their lives in WWI. Under the immense frame, an everlasting flame burns, and its walls are engraved with the names of over 90,000 deceased soldiers. The Gate dominates the parkland around it by standing on a foundation of red stone and featuring a shallow domed bowl on top, which is sometimes filled with burning oil, especially during festivals and important ceremonies. The sight of it at night is even more miraculous.
